The City of Poway is a recognized leader in water conservation in Southern California. Energized Solutions is excited to be working the City to help the City reach its water conservation goal “to create long-term sustainable change in how Poway residents and businesses think about and use our limited water supply”.  Energized Solutions instructors are developing customized presentations that will educate homeowners on water conservation strategies as well as the programs and services offered by the City. The Energized Solutions team attended the Water Conservation Summit presented by the San Diego County Water Authority (SDCWA) at Cuyamaca College on June 2, 2009. This was the 3rd annual summit presented by SDCWA and more than 350 participants attended, representing water agencies, landscape architects/designers, utilities, educators, and consulting organizations. We left the conference very impressed with the level of inter-agency cooperation and information sharing related to San Diego related to water issues. San Diego faces many changes with respect to water this summer and the City of San Diego has issued a Level 2 Draught alert that imposes several mandatory water restrictions for water customers. The other retailers in the SDCWA service territory will impose similar restrictions in July. Energized Solutions is eager to help the region by partnering with the water agencies and other stakeholders to develop solutions, including customized curriculums and education outreach programs that will be required to educate the public about approaches they can take to meet both this immediate and long term challenge of water scarcity.

Energized Solutions continues to raise the bar for MWD’s California Friendly Landscape Training Program. During the month of May 2009, Energized Solutions instructors taught 5 Residential classes for Metropolitan Water District that averaged 64 participants per class! Participants were especially excited about the instructor’s knowledge of fire-resistant plants to meet the needs of residents living in fire-prone areas of Southern California. Energized Solutions closed out the MWD fiscal year 2008-2009 with a total of 55 classes (43 Residential classes and 12 Professional classes) and looks forward to continue partnering with MWD and other water agencies during the upcoming year to help Southern California deal with the ongoing water crisis.

John and his family are again participating in the Kick for a Cure Charity Soccer event on June 6th and 7th at Westview High School in San Diego. The Westerman family will be manning the Click for a Cure photo booth and the Guitar Hero Tent on both days. This is the third year of the event to raise money for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The Westerman Family has participated each year since its inception and invites people to attend the event and help raise money for this worthy cause.

The Arizona Public Service (APS) study on Distributed Renewable Energy Operating Impacts and Valuation is released.  Energized Solutions’ John Westerman was the Task Leader for task #1 of the study:  Characterization of DE Systems and Deployment Frameworks.  The final report can be found at the following link: http://www.solarfuturearizona.com. 

Energized Solutions (ES) has been selected to provide qualified instructors for the Metropolitan Water District’s California Friendly Landscape Training Program. The Metropolitan Water District is a consortium of 26 cities and water districts and provides water to over 18 million people in parts of Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties.

The California Friendly Landscape Training Program (CFLTP) has been a very popular and successful program and is available to the member districts throughout Southern California. The CFLTP seminars are requested by the member districts and the programs are customized for residents, commercial firms and government agencies. The seminars cover a broad range of topics in water conservation, including landscape design, indigenous plants, xeriscaping and other related subject. ES is committed to developing, supporting, and evaluating sustainable policies and programs and we are very proud to partner with MWD to educate residents, businesses, and local government about what they can do to be “waterwise”. Energized Solutions (ES) is committed to promoting energy efficiency projects, especially those that reduce energy consumption and utilize technologies that are environmentally responsible. ES was recently selected to join the project team lead by Navigant Consulting to help identify potential candidates for the demonstration of the new SpyroCor Radiant Heat Transfer System (RHTS). SpyroCors, which are manufactured by Spinworks, are used in furnaces in the heat treating industry to help reduce gas consumptions on average approximately fifteen percent (15%). ES will use the database of potential candidates in the Southern California Gas Company’s service territory to qualify furnaces that can be retrofitted for this demonstration with the expectation that other Southern California Gas Company heat treating customers will implement this energy conserving technology.

Energized Solutions is a member of the project team lead by MBO Inc. of San Diego to conduct building Retrocommissioning Services (RCx) on two County facilities with a total building area of more than 850,000 ft².  The project will last for approximately 14 months and include tasks for investigation, equipment operational validation, equipment operational testing, building energy modeling, evaluation of potential energy efficiency measures (EEMs), oversight of EEM installation, system functional performance testing, establishing operational benchmarks for the facility and training of facility operators.  This is the third large RCx contract that the team of Energized Solutions and MBO have been awarded over the last 2 ½ years.

Energized Solutions is working with the Central Basin Municipal Water District to offer “FREE” gardening workshops for residents without irrigation systems to teach them about water conservation and water efficient landscape design principles. Energized Solutions has developed this program to promote the California Friendly Landscape h.e.l.p. (high efficiency living program) and has been conducting free seminars throughout the Central Basin Municipal Water District and its member retail agencies since September, 2009.  Energized Solutions was awarded the contract through the Central Basin Municipal Water District to teach this innovative water conservation program to lower income families within the CBMWD district.

The h.e.l.p. program will reach out to at least 600 participants at various locations within the CMBWD district. The courses cover such topics as landscape design, budgeting, native plants and irrigation.

The next class is scheduled for March 20th, from 10am – 12pm. and will be conducted at Parnell Park in Whittier located at 15390 Lambert Road, Whittier, CA 90604.
